Weight Loss and Weight Management

With the experience of dealing with weight loss using acupuncture for the past 20 years, Tihu’s professional team is capable of providing you with the most effective treatment results (losing 8 to 15 pounds per month on average) without relying on medication, regardless if your weight problem is caused by “hereditary factors” or “external reasons”.

Acupuncture for weight loss works by stimulating the acupuncture points on the human body through the use of metal needles, which decreases appetite and boosts metabolism.

Nerves and internal secretion are regulated in acupuncture session, which suppresses appetite, leading to decrease in food intake and gastrointestinal absorption, while also boosts metabolism, leading to increased energy consumption and thus, achieving the goal of weight loss.

The usual locations for needle insertions generally divides acupuncture into two types–ear and body. Ear acupuncture mainly targets points such as the muscles, internal secretion, and the kidney; while body acupuncture targets meridian points such as Tianshu, Daheng, Shuifen, and Shuidao. These acupuncture point names are in themselves indications of the ability to suppress hunger, boost metabolism and promote diuresis, among other uses. Needles used in ear acupuncture might remain on top of the ear at times, allowing you to stimulate the point before eating, so as to decrease your appetite.

Does it work? Of course it works more or less, or it wouldn’t have been so popular. But usually after an acupuncture session, the physician in charge would all remind you to eat less and work out more, and some would even give you recipes and ask you to stick to it. These recipes usually consist of low-calorie foods.

You might ask, so if I just eat less and work out more without the needles, or just eat according to the recipes given, would I get slimmer? Of course you would! So you might then ask, do the effects of acupuncture for weight loss really come from acupuncture itself, or do they actually come from intake of low-calorie foods?

I have seen cases where ear acupuncture sessions led to inflamed and festered ears, as well as deformation of the ear cartilage. I have also heard of cases where acupuncture targeting points near the chest led to pneumothorax. Cases of infections caused for needles are abundant as well.

I don’t object to acupuncture being used for weight loss. But in the end, weight loss is a matter of the mind. If your mind doesn’t change, your weight cannot possibly change.
